With this series, I really just let it dictate what it is going to be, depending on what I find myself gravitating towards. Obviously, it will always be within the confines of outfits and interiors relating to each other. Lately though, I have been gravitating towards bathroom designs. So, I’m letting this one be all about the bathrooms!
I think there is something so impactful about a well designed bathroom. I feel like it’s a space that people tend to overlook but when they do go for it, they tend to go a little bit more out of their comfort zone, design wise, because bathrooms are a more private space and are typically on the smaller side. So, if you go bolder with your design, it’s still in a contained space. Or perhaps that’s just my theory on it.
However, as you will see with the examples I use below, my favorite bathroom designs are those that feel similar to a more public part of the house like a living room or bedroom. Think chairs, lamps, rugs, framed artwork, drapery, etc. all the things that perhaps many people have reserved for other places in the house. If I ever get to a place where I am able to fit a chair beside my tub or even, dare I say…bathroom fireplace…I’ve officially made it in life. lol.
This series really makes me think a lot about what makes a room or outfit successful and I think it’s all the little unexpected moments. The little weird styling moments, where you think to yourself, “this doesn’t really make sense, I wouldn’t have thought to put those things together and yet I am in love with what is being achieved.” I honestly live for those moments. I get so excited and almost hyperventilate when I see a little weird styling moment that is unexpected but oh sooo good.
When those moments arise, it shows me that the designer of the space or stylist of an outfit really understood the “rules” and knew just the right way to bend them and morph them into unexpected and inspiring moments. I do think that whether you are designing a space or putting an outfit together, those unexpected elements are often created by accident in pursuit of a different yet similar goal, which makes the outcome a little fun surprise.
Striking the balance is where I think the skill comes in. Knowing when you go too far one way or when you’ve held back too much. Being honest and intuitive about what is working and what isn’t, is a fun little part of the process.
That’s what makes being in this world of outfits and interiors so fun to me. You never know what each one will bring you and there is always room to be surprised and inspired. How fun is that!
Anyways, now that I’ve talked my nonsense, let’s look at these outfits & interiors.
And just for fun, here is a bathroom I designed for my parents last year.
This is so good
I look forward to this constantly. I bring up this series to someone every single week. Thank you, thank you.
