I feel like I see a lot of talk around finding a personal style and how to approach that. Everyone has a personal style. Some people have an easier time finding theirs than others. It takes some searching and acknowledging. And when I say personal style, I mean it in all facets of the word, not just the way you dress yourself. Personal style to me is simply the way you shape your own little world and the way you want to be perceived by the world.
How to find what that is, I think, takes some looking inward and trusting yourself. The things you gravitate towards, the things that speak to you, are your personal style. I think it’s also common to feel confident in some aspects of your personal style and less confident in others. Take for example the way you dress yourself versus the way you design your home.
They both take different skills and different approaches. Both can be achieved by simply having an interest in them. If someone wants to get better at dressing themselves or designing their home, in a way that feels deeply authentic to them, they can do so simply by getting more in tune with those aspects of themselves.
Lately, I feel like my personal style, when it comes to getting dressed, has become extremely innate. I think this has only been achievable because I have allowed myself the space to have fun with getting dressed and really checking in with that speaks to me and what doesn’t. I think for a while I was dressing in ways that I felt were expected of me or trying to replicate the things I saw around me but weren’t actually “me.”
I am sure many people can relate to this. When you are able to quiet the external noise and really honor your own style it can be very rewarding.
So, I guess I say this all to say that you should trust yourself more and lead with what feels right for you. Not just with the way you get dressed but in all ways of your life.
